The Major Arcana Tarot deck – these 22 cards are arguably the most recognizable and impactful set in the entire deck which in itself consists of 78 cards. These 22 cards carry representations of life situations and messages which can offer guidance and new perspectives in the everyday.
Although each Major Arcana card stands alone with its own intricate meaning and influences, these cards also tell a story. The main character (the first card) is The Fool - we follow their journey through life (the remaining 21 cards) as they experience the lessons life has to offer much like our own - their downfall, their rising, their learning and growth, their failure and their strength.

#1 The Fool

As already stated this is the first card because they are described as the most vulnerable of all the archetypes. They have not yet experienced the failures and victories of life leaving them unaware of life’s trials and their own potential.

When The Fool is pulled from the deck in a Tarot reading it is an indication that you should lead without worry, you are encouraged to embrace the path before you.


#2 The Magician

You are a unique being and you possess many gifts and skills that others do not have, these skills set out from the crowd and can aid you overcoming adversity.

#3 The High Priestess

The most intuitive card, it is a card representing perception and your sub-consciousness. She is a reminder to trust your instincts; to follow your gut for your mind knows much more that you are aware of. The High Priestess is the embodiment of the concept of trusting yourself, when she is drawn from the deck you should stop looking for answers in the outside world and rather seek inward for the guidance you need as you may already possess it.
#4 The Empress

This is the most feminine card which encourages love, beauty and compassion, her deep roots with Mother Nature means her influence is powerful when you absorb the natural world around you.
#5 The Emperor

This is card of leadership and power. His experiences have been many and testing, his authoritative force is a representation of structure and solidarity reminding you that you hold immense power over your own life and the path it will take, own that power.
#6 The Hierophant

Much like Hermes she is the messenger between realms, she is experienced in spirituality and guidance. Her job is to bring forth lessons, for better or for worse, a chance to overcome and step into your higher self.
#7 The Lovers

It’s of no surprise that this card represents close relationships in your life; these close relationships are in need of close attention and evaluation however this card is just as much about your values and decisions than just your love life. You must be considerate of your actions and choices and be aware of possible consequences.
#8 The Chariot

The chariot card is connected to your natural drive and determination. An indication of an upcoming victory ? It’s set as a reminder that you are an unstoppable force and your greatest successes won’t come through limited thinking. The knowledge your mind, heart and spirit possess are powerful and valuable.
#9 Strength

This card is pretty self-explanatory however may not be referring to your physical strength but rather the fortitude of your heart, the magnitude of your courage and the capability you possess to resist the negativity life throws at you. You have the strength that you are seeking; it is a reminder that you are strong enough to handle whatever you are facing.
#10 The Hermit

The Hermit yearns to be alone; he knows the value of process and decision making. It is a reminder to withdraw yourself from the noise of your busy life and create a quiet space of solitude within yourself – a place of validation and self-reflection.
#11 The Wheel of Fortune

The wheel of fortune is constantly revolving; sometimes you will find yourself and the highest point and other at its lowest. This card is a reminder that nothing is permanent, wholly good or bad and you must cherish the lessons that are thrown your way.
#12 Justice
A firm but fair reminder that karma is real and it will be received by those who deserve it. Actions, words and wrong doing come with consequence. Whatever life is handing you now comes from the decisions made in the past and whether is it punishment or reward you are receiving what you deserve.
#13 The Hanged Man

This is a card that appears when you feel as though you are at a crossroads. He is telling you that sometimes small sacrifices are in order to benefit your future, higher self. Letting go and lightening your grip on the things that are no longer benefiting you will result in a fall but you will soon be caught when you realise your freedom of release.
#14 Death

Probably the most misunderstood cards. This is not a card foreseeing physical death but rather the ending of cycles, a friendly reminder that all things must come to an end and that new beginnings are on the horizon – this can be applied to relationships, situations, feelings and fears. New beginnings are coming.
#15 Temperance

She is the master of moderation. She encourages you to practice peace and patience, she can show you how these factors will benefit you and that going with the flow will ultimately lead you instead of forcing pace and direction. It is a message to take things as they come; to be flexible and have no fear in the changes that may occur or have already happened.
#16 The Devil

The devil is an indication of your internal struggles, restraints and conflicts. You are feeling powerless. You are in a situation that you feel you have no control in; that the pieces of you that were powerful and strong are now missing; he has convinced you that you have no options.
This feeling of powerlessness couldn’t be further from the truth, you are trapped by your own limitations and unwillingness to move forward rather than that of an external force, you hold the power to your own freedom but it’s your power that will free you.


#17 The Tower

Perhaps the most dreaded card in the deck, it is a representation of destruction. The Tower appears when it feels like the structure of life around you is crumbling and you have no way of preventing it. This is a message to let the failed elements fall, the weakest parts of your life must be broken down in order to rebuild for them to become stronger.
#18 The Star

This card is the embodiment of hope. She is a light in the darkness, a calming influence that brings a message of optimism and strength. A reminder that the universe is in fact working in your favour. This is a message to have faith in where you are being lead in life.

#19 The Moon

This card has strong relationship to your subconscious. It represents the internalised thoughts, feelings doubts and fears that you are harbouring, it is realising your anxiety and how these feelings are affecting your past memories and your faith in the future.
# 20 The Sun

The Sun is a powerful, uplifting card representing happiness, optimism and vitality. Your life’s elements and the universe are working in your favour and your direction is right, he is a sign of positivity; to keep going and lift your head every so often to acknowledge how far you have come.
# 21 Judgement

You are being called to re-evaluate your decisions and actions to ensure they line up with where you want to be. Your past present and future selves are aligning to complete that path for success. It is a reminder that change is a good thing, it can lead you to better decisions and outcomes, change is sometimes necessary and that’s ok.
#22 The World

The World is the last card to feature in the Major Arcana deck as a representation of completion, and fulfilment. When she appears in your reading it is an indication that you are exactly where you are meant to be on your life, you are beginning to have a greater understanding of who you are and you are prepared for the next chapter of your journey.
